Question by Sunshine girl: What are some ways to start a successful dog grooming/walking business?
Me and a few friends recently started a Dog care business for owners in our area who cant wash, brush, and walk there dogs as regularly as they should. We are looking for organization, money, grooming ideas, good walking lengths, and any help we might get. We already have a customer with 2 dogs we walk everyday.

Be sure you first create a policy and procedure book, in which your customers can have. Be sure they sign off saying this is what they agree to. Then place ads in your nearby local stores, ads in your newspaper and tell everyone to get the word out. Map out the area that you will be walking the dogs. Be sure the customer knows at all times where his/her dog is. You may even want to get a receipt book and log your entries into it. Be professional at all times. You can go far…Good Luck!
If you are not a real groomer use the word ‘brushing & bathing’ instead of grooming. People may think you could clip their dogs.
Work out a program or technique, schedule sheet or book, tools & equipment, contracts or agreements, just get really organized & you will do good.
Be reliable. Summer, winter, spring & fall. If your clients like you & the job you do they may want you year round. Would you just drop them when school starts? Who will care for their pets then? just thinking ahead.
